You'll Be In My Heart (Disney's Tarzan, Phil Collins)

Come stop your crying, it will be all right
Just take my hand, hold it tight
I will protect you from all around you
I will be here, don't you cry

For one so small, you seem so strong
My arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm
This bond between us can't be broken
I will be here, don't you cry

Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
You'll be here in my heart, always

Why can't they understand the way we feel
They just don't trust what they can't explain
I know we're different but deep inside us
We're not that different at all

And you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on, now and forever more

Don't listen to them, cause what do they know
We need each other, to have, to hold
They'll see in time, I know

When destiny calls you, you must be strong
I may not be with you, but you've got to hold on
They'll see in time, I know
We'll show them together
Cause you'll be in my heart
Believe me, you'll be in my heart
I'll be there from this day on, now and forever more

Oh, you'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be in my heart, always
Always
We'll be there for you always, Helaina.
Just look over your shoulder, we'll be there.
We love you, Helaina Marie!

Daddy's on vacation!!

Jim has been on vacation this past week, so it's been go go go just about every day. Our activities have included the New York State Fair (twice), a trip to Alexandria Bay for an Uncle Sam's boat ride, miniature golf at a local golf course, lunch at Chuck E Cheese (!), and many other small adventures along the way. Here are some of the highlights!

Monday: Helaina's first trip to the State Fair. I am definately a "Fair person" and enjoy it every year even though most people say "it's always the same thing". We've waited many years to be pushing our daughter around the fairgrounds in a stroller, and it was worth the wait. Helaina enjoyed the sights, sounds and tastes of whatever she could get her hands on. Her favorite free samples were the maple cream, maple cotton candy and small cups of ice cream.

Animals are always a big hit with Helaina, and she loved the cows. Love the look on her face here.

Helaina would yell to the cows "moooooo" and seemed to wonder why they didn't always "moo" back at her. Here she was attempting to find out why.

Riding the cows in the dairy building. I remember putting Joshua on these same cows when he was a young boy!

The famous butter sculpture.

Riding some type of Fischer Price bike in one of the buildings. Jim had to drag her off of this.

I couldn't believe it, but these bunnies actually stayed still while hundreds of people mauled them!

Checking out the giraffe at the petting zoo with his long neck.

Exhausted at the end of our day, Helaina fell asleep in the stroller on the way back to the main gate. We knew she was going to zonk out when we saw her head bobbing up and down!

Tuesday: Lunch at A&W and miniature golf. Helaina has recently mastered drinking through a straw. She is quite proud of herself and will drink ANYTHING if it's in a cup with a straw. She had a large cup of frosty rootbeer at A&W and swigged at it all afternoon! Miniature golf with a 2-year old? Uh huh.

Jim foolishly thought he'd teach Helaina how to hit the ball correctly - nice try, Daddy, but Helaina's got her own ideas.

Sideways, one-handed, right?

Three holes-in-one for us all. And if you believe that.....

This was Helaina's favorite. She would throw the ball into the hole and it would roll through a tube and come out at the bottom - almost going into the cup.

One more try at showing Helaina the Tiger Woods technique.

This was the pretty blue water that Daddy's ball "accidentally" ended up in. Helaina followed suit by immediately picking up her ball and throwing it into the water.

Wednesday: Uncle Sam's Boat Ride in Alexandria Bay, Thousand Islands. Boat ride, lunch at an outdoor restaurant, walking around the docks and boats, then ice cream, of course.

We decided on the one-hour Millionaire's Cruise. Good thing we didn't opt for the 2-hour tripbecause Helaina was bored after a while. She liked the boat ride but wanted to get up and run around. Anyone who knows Helaina knows that she likes to get up, get going and not stand idle.

"Oooooooooo. Snacks."

Pretending to be asleep. Another new game Helaina likes to play. Don't wake her up!

A quick stop at Boldt Castle on our way back to the dock.

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday - stay tuned!!!

New Life Picnic

Last weekend we attended our first New Life picnic. Helaina got to meet some of the people at the agency that played a large role in uniting us as a family, plus she got to play with some of her pals. There was a DJ playing records, a nice playground and lots of kids to play with - but it was a hot, scorching day. At times, the playground slides were too hot to even slide down.

Hanging on bars - one of Helaina's new favorite tricks. Daddy needs to install one on our playground at home.

From the look on her face you'd think she was on the back of a real dinosaur!

Big girl swings.

Waiting for the hula hoop competition to begin.

Helaina discovered a new snack at the picnic and now they are her favorite. Cheesepuffs (cheesedoodles?). These happened to be jumbo-sized curly ones. She was "cheesy orange" by the time she finished them. That's our little carb gal.

The next day we headed to Onondaga Lake Park for a bike ride and a stop at the playground. Here Helaina and Daddy are looking for just the right flat stones to skip.

Peaking through the bubble on one of the slides.

As an added bonus, one of the children on the playground found this water pipe mister thing between the skate park and the playground (I don't know if it's been there all along and we just never noticed it, or what). Children from every direction flocked to the spraying water when they saw it, as did Helaina!

Getting cooled off after playing hard at the playground (wearing her "Daddy's cupcake" shirt).

A little Sprite always helps too.

Our soaked, but cool, little beauty queen. Or as Helaina says it: "ahh wet!"

No fish on the last outing, just wet shorts

On our most recent fishing excursion we didn't catch any fish (so what's new). Helaina did, however, find a new way to let us know when she is bored with fishing. Her shorts got wet when she was sitting on the edge of the boat so I took them off of her to dry in the sun. A little while later she picked them up and tossed them over the side of the boat into the water. As they were rapidly sinking, I reached for them with my hand and Jim snagged them with the tip of his pole. Guess it's time to head back to the dock when she does that!

Here's what we got when I held the camera out in front of us and Helaina snapped the picture.

If you look closely at this picture, you'll see the "felt tip pen moustache" that Helaina drew on one side of her lip when I wasn't watching her as closely as I should have been!
